Scouting came to the area in late April or early May 1908 and this is confirmed by reports in the local newspaper,“ The Welsh Coast Pioneer” in June 1908. This could give us the distinction of hosting the oldest Scout Troop in Wales the “1st Colwyn Y.M.C.A. Baden Powell Boy Scouts By 1909 there were than five active scout troops within our new district boundaries. Conwy County District Scout Association is one of the newest in the U.K. Formed in 1999 and stretching from Rhyl to Llanfairfechan along the North Wales coast and up the Conwy Valley almost to Corwen near Llangollen and the Lledr Valley towards Blaenau Ffestiniog. The new district is formed from the former districts of Conwy, Llandudno and Llanrwst in the former counties North Caernarfonshire and Gwynedd together with the districts of Colwyn and Abergele in the former counties of West Denbighshire and Clwyd. The District also encompasses some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. We are mainly located in the Snowdonia National Park with mountains, uplands, river valleys and twenty miles of coastline to enjoy. Currently the district has over 500 members of the movement and our sister movement – the Girl Guides – has a similar number.
