District Orienteering Competition

This was our 2nd annual event in BodlondebWoods, Conwy with approx.75 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts entering.

There was a cold April wind, low cloud but no rain – good for running.

Everyone was encouraged to try the practise course in the park before entering the timed event in the woods. Most of the Beavers had a go around both Cub and Scout courses accompanied by adults.

The Cubs tackled their course in pairs and as enthusiasm and confidence grew, most of them successfully tried the Scout course for fun.

The more difficult scout event was for individuals and most of the scouts went on to do the cub course for fun.

Medals were presented by our new District Commissioner Keith Hughes.

Cub winners were Russell Wingfield and Morgan Williams of 1st Conwy with an amazing time of 10 minutes.

The scout winner was Scott Taylor of Rhos on Sea Troop with a very fast time of 14 minutes.

Congratulations and well done to all entrants

3 teams tied for first place on 60 points.

It was thought to be fair if the three   teams each held  the trophy for four  months  rather than "tie-reak.

1st Conwy, 3rd Llandudno Junction  and 1st Glan Conwy being joint winners.

The Last £3,000 needed.

We are just £3,000 short of the target of £44,000 needed to complete the major improvements at the Rowen Scout Camp.
I am appealing to all groups and sections to make an effort in making a contribution towards the shortfall. Don't worry about how  much or little, EVERY penny will count. Of the £44,000, only £100 has come from scouting in the district, with thanks to Rhos on Sea. It is your camp site and has been for the past 76 years and with the improvements, it will continue to be of service to our young members for years to come.An added incentive is the movements year of ...  www.kidsoutdoors.com  so why not link a simple simple outdoor fund raiser to our plea for help and meet the aims of     both challenges                                            The work has started and the contractor hopes to finish by late May, which is when we need the funds in place, so come rally around and help get the job finished.

Cheques or cash to our treasurer       Mr. Richard Davies. " Conwy District Scouts, Rowen Camp Appeal"

Beaver Activity Day

Once again thanks to the District Scout Fellowship for providing another successful beaver activity day which was held on Saturday 15th March.

The 32 beavers attending had seven different activity bases to get involved in with all the beavers fully participating  and  enjoying themselves.  Also thanks to the Ormes Scout Group for providing the venue and the Explorer Scouts who assisted throughout the day.

Hats off to the leaders from the Ormes Scout Group who at the end of the activity day were staying on in order that their Beavers could have an evening of more activities followed by a sleepover!!!!

Rhos on Sea Scouts.

From a report by Lyn, the new Scout Leader, it is encouraging to see that not only do the scouts seem to have enjoyed their first term with their new leaders, but so have Lyn and the new Assistant Scout Leader, Alan. Outings have included the High Ropes Course at Betws y Coed,a weekend camp at Rowen, a guided tour of Parys Mountain on Anglesey , a good turn out for Remembrance Sunday and a visit to Llandudno Lifeboat Station.

Two scouts achieved their Chief Scout Gold award along the way, well done Ellie and Angharad with Marc one step away from completing his.

....
Research has shown that Scout troops with this kind of outdoor and adventurous programme retain their members and pass them onto the next section.

Excellent News for Rowen
The District Campsite at Rowen has just been awarded 42,000.00 for improvements at the site. our appreciation to:-

 WREN Landfill Fund

  • Conwy Voluntary Services Council
  • The Scout Association Trelor Fund
Also to the many local groups and societies that support us on a regular basis with financial donations. The funding will allow for the toilet block to be refurbished and extended to provide separate disability, ladies and gents toilets. It will also provide for the building of a generator house and the installation of a simple lighting system. Hopefully it will also mean we can finish the double glazing of the windows, renew the front porch and carry out a range of minor repairs and improvements.
